Health Checks

We know that our fur babies are more than just pets. That is why it is very distressing when they are unwell. However, they are masters at hiding diseases until things are more advanced.

Also, dogs and cats age more rapidly than we do. That is why it is essential to have your pets examined regularly to ensure they are in excellent condition, inside and out.

At Kenwick Vet, we are pleased to provide the latest diagnostics and treatments to ensure that your beloved companions can receive the best level of care and attention.

Our enthusiastic veterinarians are equipped with the latest medicine knowledge and skills to offer full work ups of complicated medical cases.

We understand that trips to the vet can be overwhelming for both you and your pets. We take care of your pet’s emotional needs and we care about you too. We are open 7 days a week to ensure your pets can receive the best care they need promptly.

We encourage you to make some notes before your visit so we can address questions and concerns that you may have for your pets. Please feel free to take photos, videos and samples with you to help us work out any potential abnormalities.

If your pet is due for an exam, please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to make an appointment.”

Vaccination

At Kenwick Vet, keeping your four-legged family member healthy is our priority. That is why we recommend a combination of core (essential) and non-core(lifestyle-based) vaccines to give them the best protection possible.

Keeping our pets up to date with vaccination can also reduce and prevent the spread of harmful diseases in our community.

That means by vaccinating your pets, you are also helping to protect our animals and, in some cases, people too.

Not sure if your pet is fully vaccinated? Please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to speak to our friendly staff.

Microchipping

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under your pet’s skin, usually on their back between their shoulders. The microchip comes with a code that is unique to your pet and serves as a form of permanent identification. The code is placed onto a national computer database with the owner’s contact details, so it is essential in the return of lost pets. If a pet is lost and is handed in at a veterinary practice or an animal shelter, the pet’s microchip can be scanned to reveal the unique code. The staff can refer to the database to identify the contact details of the owner, so they can be reunited.

It is compulsory for dogs to be microchipped by 3 months of age and cats to be microchipped by 6 months of age in Western Australia.

If you have changed your address or contact details, it is important to update your pet’s entry in the pet registry.

Please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to schedule an appointment if your pet needs to be microchipped

Desexing

Desexing our pets is essential in preventing unwanted breeding. It also makes a positive impact on our pets’ health and behaviour too.

At Kenwick Vet, we ensure that our approach is up to date with the latest research in veterinary medicine so that we can educate pet owners about what is best for their pets.

Female Dogs
The procedure involves the surgical removal of both ovaries and their uterus. Sterilizing your female dog can prevent her from coming on heat or having unwanted pregnancy. It can eliminate the risk of false pregnancies and a life-threatening problem called pyometra. It can also reduce the chance of the development of mammary tumours.

Male Dogs
The procedure involves the surgical removal of both testicles from the scrotum.  This can reduce unwanted behavioural problems such as aggression, dog fighting, excessive barking and humping/mounting. It can also prevent prostatic diseases and tumours.

Female Cats
The procedure involves the surgical removal of both ovaries and their uterus. Sterilizing your female cat can prevent her from coming on heat or having unwanted pregnancy. It can also reduce the chance of the development of mammary tumours.

Male Cats
The procedure involves the surgical removal of both testicles from the scrotum.  This can reduce unwanted behavioural problems such as unpleasant urine spraying and fighting.

We recommend talking with our veterinarians to find out if desexing is the best option for your pet. Please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to make an appointment to speak to our vets.

Dentistry

Do you know that up to 80% of dogs and 70% of cats are suffering from dental disease by the age of three? Not only does dental disease cause bad breath, loose teeth, bleeding of gums, pain and inappetence, it can also act as a source of infection for the rest of the body and make your pet seriously ill.

Most pets need several dental procedures throughout their lives.
We recommend your pet’s teeth to be examined every 6 months so that we can identify any dental issue and make a recommendation for treatment and management.

Dental X-rays are highly recommended with our dental procedures. This is because three quarters of the teeth are below the gumline and it is impossible to full assess the whole tooth including their roots without performing dental X-rays.

There are occasions that teeth are damaged or diseased and they are required to be extracted. Dogs and cats recover really well with extractions and we recommend soft food for about 7 days after extractions.

At Kenwick Vet, we believe prevention is always better than cure. That is why regular dental home care is essential to minimize ongoing dental disease. We provide a variety of dental care products to ensure your pet is kissable every single day.

Thinking your pet may have dental disease? Please contact us at (08) 9459 7999 today to schedule a FREE dental check.
